Support Young Lives – Be Part of Their Journey Forward

We’re looking for a compassionate and team-oriented Social Care Workerto join our Under-18 Residential Service, providing vital support to young people aged 15–17 who are out of home and in crisis. In this short-term residential setting, you’ll work as part of a dedicated team to create a safe, stable environment where young people can begin to rebuild and move toward their futures.


What you will do:

  • To work within the framework of the overall objective of Focus Ireland and the values of the agency.

  • To act as a key worker for individual young people and work in partnership with agencies external to Focus Ireland in relation to young people referred to the service.

  • To participate in drawing up individualised programmes exploring clients experiences of homelessness and support clients to break this cycle and in doing so prepare clients to their move-on to an identified placement or to independent living.

  • To support young people accommodated that have experienced trauma.

  • To advocate on a young person’s behalf for housing, social work, social welfare, education, training and legal rights.

  • To support young people accommodated in the service in conjunction with their statutory care plan and work with the young person to develop and maintain an individual placement plan.

  • To refer and support young people referring to external agencies that may further assist them with the personal, social, educational, employment, legal and accommodation needs.

  • To record and maintain records in relation to the project and individual clients in accordance with statutory requirements and health and safety legislation.

  • To assist in the implementation of the settlement policies and strategies of Focus Ireland.

  • To prepare and engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Manager/Deputy

  • To observe all Health, Safety and Welfare at Work regulations and notify management of any risks or concerns you may have in relation to same.

  • To agree to take part in a 7-day, 24 hour roster.

What you will need:

  • Hold a CORU approved Social Care Worker qualification and have applied for CORU registration (evidence of application will be necessary)

  • OR hold a relevant third level qualification at degree level i.e. social care, psychology, sociology.

  • Proven direct work experience in a social care setting at a project worker level or equivalent.

  • Experience of supporting marginalized clients/groups preferably adolescents.

  • A working knowledge and insight into the social issues that affect young people, in particular young people who have or are experiencing homelessness.

  • Ability to manage and support clients in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based on the values and principles of best practice in Focus Ireland.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection.

  • Excellent report writing and IT skills.

  • A working knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model (Desirable)

  • A working knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Children’s Residential (Desirable)
