Project Worker, Coffee Shop, Dublin

Location: Dublin

Contract: Full Time, 2 year Fixed Term contracts available

The purpose of this role is To work as part of a team providing a warm, welcoming, professional service that provides access food & shelter as well as access to advice and information services.  The Coffee Shop supports single adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness.  The Coffee Shop provides a safe environment which facilitates social inclusion and empowers customers to access appropriate support services.

What you will do: 

  • Work within the framework of the overall objectives of Focus Ireland, ensuring all duties support the strategic aims of the organisation.

  • Adhere to all Focus Ireland policies and procedures, including those specific to the Coffee Shop.

  • Deliver services in line with the Focus Ireland model and recognised standards of best practice.

  • Remain vigilant to any Health, Safety, or Welfare risks in the workplace and report concerns to the Line Manager or Health & Safety Representative.

  • Work on-site in the Coffee Shop in full compliance with all relevant Focus Ireland policies.

  • Work a flexible seven‑day roster in order to meet the needs and objectives of the service.

  • Take responsibility for completing assigned daily roles and tasks within the Coffee Shop.

  • Engage in ongoing Customer Involvement activities to support participation within the service.

  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment by helping to reduce or prevent incidents or harmful behaviours, in line with Focus Ireland’s TCI and Managing Violence policies.

  • Interact with customers appropriately, observe and respond to behaviours, manage emergencies in accordance with guidelines, and report and record incidents for communication to the wider team.

  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the service as part of daily operational duties.

  • Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records, including contact logs, daily notes, and written Incident or Child Protection Reports.

  • Mentor new staff when required and model good work practices in line with organisational standards.

  • Provide monthly reports as requested by management.

  • Work collaboratively with other Focus Ireland teams and with external statutory and voluntary agencies where appropriate.

  • Attend all required internal and external meetings, handovers, and training sessions.

  • Participate in regular supervision sessions with the Line Manager.

  • Work with the Line Manager to continuously develop the role, ensuring all tasks are carried out effectively and appropriately.

  • Undertake any additional duties that may reasonably be assigned in consultation with the Line Manager.


    What you will need:

  • A Third Level qualification at degree level in the area of social care i.e. youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology, etc and/or be a CORU registered Social Care Worker

  • At least 2 years’ experience in the social care field working with disadvantaged persons.

  • Experience of supporting marginalised persons with high risk and challenging behaviour.

  • A working knowledge of issues affecting people out-of-home and their impact on people and their physical, emotional and psychological development/status.

  • Relevant experience of working in a team which shares a common goal

  • A working knowledge of services in the homeless sector.(Desirable)

  • An awareness of child protection issues and ways of responding appropriately to any concerns.(Desirable)
