Peer Support Worker, Dublin City

Location: Dublin

Contract: Part Time, 1 year fixed term

The Peer Support Worker will provide additional, person‑centred support to the staff team and service users in Dublin City. The role promotes community inclusion, participation, independence, recovery, and resilience.


This position is specifically for an individual with a self-identified lived experience of homelessness and of engaging with housing or homeless services. The Peer Worker uses this lived experience to build connection, offer hope, and model recovery.

What you will do:

  • Work within the overall goals, values and objectives of Focus Ireland.

  • Follow Focus Ireland policies and procedures, including those specific to Day Services.

  • Stay alert to any health, safety, or welfare risks in the workplace.

  • Promptly report any concerns to the line manager or Health & Safety Representative.

  • Use a trauma-informed approach to mutually explore experiences with peers and support access to appropriate resources.

  • Enhance team decision-making by ensuring customer voice and choice are at the centre of planning.

  • Provide positive role modelling by sharing personal experiences appropriately, offering hope, encouragement, and connection to community supports.

  • Attend team meetings, reflective practice sessions, and relevant training identified as beneficial to the role.

  • Complete required paperwork, maintain records, and input information accurately into databases.

  • Promote respect, dignity, diversity, and equal opportunities in all interactions.

What you will need:

  • Lived experience of homelessness.

  • Security in recovery if relevant to the applicant’s experience.

  • Experience working as part of a team with a shared goal.

  • Knowledge of issues impacting people who are out-of-home and their effects on physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing.

The ideal Peer Support Worker will:

  • Be a good listener and genuinely interested in the experiences of others.

  • Be confident in speaking about their own lived experience in a supportive and appropriate way.

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Treat others non-judgementally and with respect.

  • Be dependable, committed, and reliable.

  • Understand the importance of boundaries and feel comfortable asking for support when needed.
