Senior Health and Safety Manager, Property, National

Contract: Full Time, Permanent

The Health and Safety Manager role operates at a senior level in the Organisation acting as key advisor of the Health and Safety function to ensure that the Organization is compliant as per legislation.

What you will do:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on Health & Safety compliance in line with organisational policies, statutory requirements, and best practice standards.

  • Maintain and continuously improve Health & Safety standards across multiple sites, ensuring a safe working environment for employees, clients, and visitors.

  • Lead the management, monitoring, auditing, and review of workplace Health & Safety systems, liaising with internal and external stakeholders as required.

  • Coordinate the annual Health & Safety survey in partnership with the Health & Safety Committee, reporting findings and recommendations to the Executive Team.

  • Promote environmental sustainability initiatives, including recycling and reusable practices, while educating employees on their environmental responsibilities.

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments; document findings, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, implement remedial measures, and complete all statutory reporting requirements with the Health & Safety Authority.

  • Support managers and HR in managing employee-related Health & Safety matters, including psychosocial risks, maternity-related assessments, remote working risks, and employee wellbeing concerns.

  • Develop, maintain, and oversee Health & Safety records, policies, procedures, training documentation, statutory inspection records, and incident reporting systems.

  • Advise management on Health & Safety legislation, regulations, PPE requirements, contractor safety procedures, and risk control measures relating to maintenance and property operations.

  • Manage emergency preparedness arrangements, including business continuity and crisis management plans, fire safety procedures, fire drills, and the training of fire marshals and first aid responders.

  • Chair Safety Committee meetings, deliver Health & Safety training and guidance to managers and employees, and administer personal injury claims while acting as the primary liaison with the organisation's insurance provider.

What you will need:

  • Honours degree in engineering or science/social science and/or A  diploma/degree qualified in Health & Safety

  • Qualifications in the implementation of management systems, in particular OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 is desirable

  • 3-4 years’ experience in an OSH-role in a similar sector

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance procedures, publications and an ability to interpret relevant legislation

  • Proven ability to carry out effective investigations, audits, inspections and compile reports and recommendations as appropriate

  • Relevant membership of a Health & Safety organisation (e.g. The Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), preferably at chartered status or equivalent

  • Full clean driving licence
