Deputy Manager, Under 18s Residential, The Haven, South East

Location: Clonmel

Contract: Full-Time, Specific Purpose Contract

The purpose of this role is to provide short-term accommodation to young people, aged 15- 17, who have been displaced from their home.

What you will do:

  • Work within the overall objectives of Focus Ireland and under the supervision and direction of the Manager of The Haven.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to residential staff teams, promoting a positive and professional working environment.

  • Create and maintain a safe, caring, and stable environment for young people placed in the centre, promoting their rights and responsibilities.

  • As part of the management team, ensure the centre operates in line with Tusla policies, Child Care (Standards in Children’s Residential Centres) Regulations 1996, and HIQA National Standards (2018).

  • Ensure Care and Placement Plans are in place, agreed, implemented, and regularly monitored for all young people in the centre.

  • Consult and engage appropriately with young people, their families, centre staff, and relevant external stakeholders.

  • Provide regular supervision to staff and actively promote staff development, training, and reflective practice.

  • Implement, monitor, and review project and agency policies and procedures, including safeguarding, complaints, confidentiality, health and safety, housing, and HR policies.

  • Support the Manager with staff performance management, recruitment, supervision, training, and compliance with employment and health and safety legislation.

  • Assume the duties of the Manager in their absence to ensure the smooth and effective running of the project.

  • Coordinate referrals, allocation of case workers, maintain accurate records and statistical information, and prepare monthly and other required reports.

  • Manage financial systems, contribute to the annual budgeting process, participate in project reviews and evaluations, and implement service improvements.

  • Work collaboratively with external agencies, participate in on‑call systems, attend meetings and training, and undertake other reasonable duties assigned by senior management.

What you will need:

  • Hold a CORU approved Social Care Worker qualification and have applied for CORU registration (evidence of application will be necessary)

  • 3 years’ experience at Social Care Leader and post qualification experience in Residential Child Care or related field.

  • A working knowledge of the impact of childhood adversity on adolescents.

  • Ability to manage and support customers in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based upon Focus Irelands values and principles of best practice.

  • Experience of working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams to holistically meet the needs of service users.

  • A working knowledge and understanding of therapeutic crisis intervention model.

  • A working knowledge and understanding of the HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres. (2018)

  • Supervisory experience.

  • A working knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres. (Desirable)

  • A working knowledge and understanding of therapeutic crisis intervention model. (Desirable)
